SEGMENT #1 - In October of 1968, the idea that religion had anything but condemnation to offer LGBT people was unthinkable. Unthinkable, that is, to everyone except a gay former Pentecostal preacher named Troy Perry. Perry founded METROPOLITAN COMMUNITY CHURCH in Los Angeles, and MCC has grown to include LGBT-positive congregations around the world. When Perry retired as head of the denomination in 2005, the REV. ELDER NANCY WILSON was elected to replace him. In her keynote addres s at MCC-LA's 40th anniversary celebration in October of this year, Wilson recounted highlights of the Church's history and pointed to the present and future challenges for its global ministry (produced by LUCIA CHAPPELLE, with intro music from "Don't Give Me That Old Time Religion" by REV. DELORES BERRY) . . . . . . . . . . . 17:03 [www.mccchurch.org] TWO
